Rev. Darryl E. Walker

Senior Pastor, New Philadelphia AME Church


Darryl E. Walker was born in Denver, Colorado where he was educated in the public schools. He attended the Metropolitan State College; receive his Bachelor in Theology (B.Th), and his Master in Divinity (M.Div.) from New Hope Bible College & Seminary. Darryl E. Walker was licensed to preach in 1971, admitted to the Colorado Annual Conference in 1972, ordained an Itinerant Deacon in 1974, and ordained an Itinerant Elder in 1977. He married Yvonne M. Smith in the fall of 1977 and together they raised two sons, Donovan and Eric.


Rev. Darryl Walker has served as pastor of Mt. Olive A.M.E. (Emporia, Kansas), Allen Chapel A.M.E. (Cheyenne, Wyoming), Ebenezer A.M.E. (Bremerton, Washington), Parks Chapel A.M.E. (Los Angeles, California), St. John A.M.E. (Omaha, Nebraska), Allen A.M.E. (Tacoma, Washington), Ebenezer A.M.E. (Kansas City, Missouri), Turner Memorial A.M.E. (Hyattsville, MD), and is now the proud pastor of New Philadelphia A.M.E. Church in Long Beach, California. Under the guidance of Rev. Walker, New Philadelphia recently purchased and moved into a beautiful church complex.


Pastor Walker served on the 2008 and 2012 Compilation Committee of the Doctrine & Discipline of the A.M.E. Church, and the 2012 right-sizing of the delegations to the General Conference of the AME Church. He has served as Assistant Coach for the Los Angeles Unified School District and President of many Ministerial Alliance Groups. Additionally, he has served on the executive boards of the NAACP, the Black Health Care Coalition, the Foundation for Hospices in Sub-Saharan Africa, Inc. in Washington, DC, and as the Chief Executive Officer of the Henry McNeal Turner Early Learning Center in Oxon Hills, Maryland.


Previously, Pastor Walker was voted to be one of the 100 most influential persons in Kansas City, Missouri, and "Pastor of the Year" by the Northwest Missouri Conference Lay Organization. He was the 2015 Southern California Conference Lay Organization “Pastor of the Year”, an honoree. His New Philadelphia “NuPhilly” church family votes him “Pastor Extraordinaire”.
